VALENCIA JHONATAN RESTREPO has continued his rampage after narrowly edging Eritrean Hailu Biniam to win the penultimate stage of the 2020 Tour du Rwanda on Saturday.

Androni Giocattoli’s Jhonatan Valencia Restrepo on Saturday entered the record books for Tour du Rwanda after winning stage seven, his fourth at this year’s edition.

Eritrean Natnael Tesfazion meanwhile increased his chances of winning this year’s edition after stretching his lead from 1’08” to 1’30” following the 4.5km Individual Time Trial.

66 riders competed at Saturday ITT stage and Restrepo who has now won three consecutive stages (stage five, six and seven) plus stage three emerged as the fastest rider after covering the 4.5km distance that passed on the famous wall of Kigali in 06’32” while Biniam Girmay of Nippo Delko was the second fastest with 06”34”.

Tesfazion finishes in the 21st place posting 06’59”, 27 seconds behind however he managed to stretch his lead on the general classification after his closest contender Moise Mugisha of Skol Adrien Cycling Academy finished 47th clocking 07’21”.

This saw the Eritrean increase his advantage with the yellow jersey ahead of Sunday’s final stage by 1’30”.

On the final day tomorrow, riders will cover 89.3km around Kigali where they will taste the wall of Kigali twice.
